World Cup 2010: Casper, Wyoming

Posted: June 23rd, 2010 | Filed under: On The Road | 11 Comments »

After decades of waiting in the wings as international hubs including Paris, Seoul, Berlin and Johannesburg have stolen the main stage of the world’s most prestigious football tournament, the World Cup has finally come to Casper, Wyoming. It was easy to see how much the locals have been waiting for the tournament to begin. One lady in the Wyoming Medical Centre even went so far as to pose the age-old footballing question, “Offside? Isn’t that what happens when there’s a yellow card?”

We will finally leave this town on Friday morning. I will accompany Auggie on the plane to Chicago, rest with him over the weekend and pick up cycling next week from there. It changes the schedule significantly, but I learned today that what we had on our hands was a bona fide medical emergency: if we had not acted as fast as we did, Auggie could have died. Apparently it is that simple. So in the circumstances I don’t mind cutting out the corn fields of Nebraska and Iowa, and hope our followers won’t either.

Onward to Illinois!

So great to see Auggie feeling better, and up and about. Keep taking it easy until you are fully recovered. And congrats to England, Saul. I thought the red jerseys were a good omen too. Now if only the refs would stop stealing goals from USA.

So happy to Auggie feeling better…that’s what important right now. It’s frightening to think that we could have lost him because of this…thank-you Saul, for getting him the help he needed when he needed it. Your determination to finish this however you can is so admirable..truly an example of drive and dedication….unfortunately something we don’t see enough of in this day and age. Things seem to come too easy for this generation in general…it’s wonderful to see two young men face obstacles and NOT give up…but rather find a way to accomplish their goal, and stay true to their word. Such admiration for both of you…XXOO ;~)

Great to see you recovering, Auggie. According to information on the internet, rhabdomyolysis is more likely to occur when the muscles are poorly hydrated. So maybe, Daula, I wasn’t so full of s*** when I told you you should be drinking more water and you laughed at me…

PS Auggie you have a great voice!

Auggie, so pleased to see you are slowly getting better – you look a lot more like your perky self here! I too am full of admiration for you both, you are truly soldiering on and are dealing so magnificently with this different set of circumstances. All your fans will be so happy to hopefully see you, Auggie, ride the last few miles into NYC to a truly deserved heroes’ welcome. You are both an inspiration not only to your own generation but to everyone. And yes, come on England, you can beat the enemy on Sunday! Hugs to you both from one of your 28 mothers… xxxxx

I do love the manner in which you have framed this matter and it really does present me personally some fodder for consideration. On the other hand, through everything that I have personally seen, I just trust as the actual reviews stack on that men and women continue to be on point and don’t start on a tirade associated with some other news du jour. Still, thank you for this superb point and although I can not necessarily concur with this in totality, I regard the standpoint.
